Crash! Boom! Blam!

Growing up you were either a fan of The Beano or The Dandy. I was The Beano, it was arguably the better product, and I never really got Desperate Dan. For 10p a week I'd be entertained by the antics of Dennis the Menace and Gnasher, The Bash Street Kids, Roger the Dodger and many more. Each character's distinctive appearance was defined by the artists who drew them, but with changing artists and trends in comics over recent years, some of characters are almost unrecognisable to what I remember. Yet one thing has stayed relatively unchanged - the sound effects, or onomatopoeias, to name them correctly. The Crash! Boom! Whump! and Blat! graphics that are just as important to the comic strip ethos as the characters themselves. Their visual style and graphical detail are a thing of beauty that probably goes unnoticed by most readers, so here at FrogFacedSouply they will be celebrated. More pix after the jump
